Day 14 Purification/Weight Loss

Monday, January 30th, 2012 At 2:15 pm

How Should I Feel Today?

Proud to know you only have 1 week to your goal.

Weight Loss

Are you using your newfound energy for working out? I know we have mentioned this multiple times, but sweating is KEY to losing weight. Drink lots of water and sweat, sweat, sweat.

Reminders

If you are experiencing constipation, remember to drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. In addition, be sure to eat plenty of vegetables and fruits with high fiber content. Eating a beet a day will also encourage regular bowel movements.

Recipe of the Day

Chicken Piccata

Ingredients:

- 4 Boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- 2 garlic cloves, pressed
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes
- ½ cup Pacific free range chicken broth
- ½ teaspoon lemon peel
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon arrowroot

Directions:

1. Light oil broiler pan with small amount of olive oil.
2. Preheat broiler.
3. Season both sides of chicken with thyme, pepper and 1/8 teaspoon salt.
4. Place chicken on broiler pan about 2″-3″ from the heat for 5 minutes per side or until 160 degrees at thickest part.
5. Remove from broiler and keep warm.
6. Heat a large skillet lightly oiled over medium heat.
7. Add garlic and stir constantly for 30 seconds.
8. Add tomatoes and remaining 1/8 teaspoon salt and cook for 3 minutes.
9. Place tomatoes on platter with chicken.
10. Combine arrowroot and broth in a cup.
11. Stir until dissolved.
12. In the same skillet, whisk together the arrowroot mixture, lemon peel and lemon juice and bring to a boil over high heat while stirring constantly.
13. Cook for one minute or until sauce is slightly thickened.
14. Add butter and any juice collected on platter and boil while stirring constantly.
15. Cook until butter is just melted and sauce thickens.
16. Pour over the chicken and serve.

Days 4-7 1/3 Of The Way!

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012 At 2:48 pm

Myth: To avoid heart disease, we should use margarine instead of butter.

Truth: Margarine eaters have twice the rate of heart disease as butter eaters.

- Source: (Nutrition Week 3/22/91 21:12)

We are now a third of the way there.

I have been away from my computer for the last few days, but I am still on track.  I was very fatigued on Thursday and Friday, but have recovered quite well.

Today, you should have more energy.  The lack of protein can make you feel sluggish, so some organic whey in your shake is acceptable.

Remember, we may ad 3-oz of cold water non-farmed fish or organic chicken 2-4 times a day on Wednesday (I myself can’t wait for some salmon!!).

Exercise!

Remember to work out and perform 30 minutes of cardio a day. We want to boost our metabolism.  For those doing the Purification Challenge, please know that our gym is at your disposal. Also, the Standard Process Website has some useful information. See links below:

Recipe of the Day

Guacamole

Ingredients

  • 2 organic avocados – peeled and mashed
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
  • ½ chopped tomato (use less if diabetic)
  • Salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions

  1. Mix all together thoroughly and put avocado seed back into bowl to prevent turning brown.
  2. Tip: although you can’t have tortilla chips (always a favorite with this dip), you can enjoy a nice crudité with your guacamole by slicing up some raw vegetables (or using them whole if you prefer). Whole cherry tomatoes, sliced carrots and celery are always favorites.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011 At 2:02 pm

To Our Capitol Rehab Family,

The Holidays are a time to be with family and to rejoice, but it can be difficult for families in need. We all know this, and every year your generosity makes the Holidays so much better for those families.

Every year Capitol Rehab adopts local families in need to help them have a happy Holiday Season, and this year is no different.  We are seeking Angels to help fill wishes and if you would like to give a little something, we have some suggestions.

The children are Olivia (age 3, size 4/5), and Eva (age 5, size 6) and they are asking Santa for Barbie Dolls and Barbie accessories.  Capitol Rehab would also like to provide grocery cards, gift cards to local inexpensive restaurants, and other age appropriate toys.

Please have all your donations delivered to Capitol Rehab in Winchester by December 10, 2011 so we may prepare the donations.

In addition to the adopted families, we will be collecting non-perishable food items and new, unwrapped toys to donate to local charities.

You may talk to anyone at Capitol Rehab if you have any questions.  And we would like to thank you in advance for your most kind generosity.

A New Reflexology Treatment!

Introducing New Foot Reflexology Treatment

The fall season is well underway, and cooler breezes presage winter’s restoration.  This time of year we anxiously anticipate the holiday season and are driven by productivity and preparation for the year to come.  It is easy to slip into a fast paced routine that leaves our minds and bodies stressed and worn out.  This year, why not make an effort to stay above the bleak mid-winter blues?  The benefits of relaxation are never more pertinent than now, and so we invite you to experience our new indulgent Foot Reflexology treatment and take a step towards peace and health this season!

President of the International Institute for Reflexology, Dwight Byers defines reflexology as “the science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands with correspond to all the glands, organs, and parts of the body”.1  Longitudinal and transverse lines that divide the body into zones map out the reflex areas in the corresponding zones of the feet.2  The reflex areas in the feet become a minimap of the whole body.

The Reflexology method involves using thumb and finger techniques on foot reflexes to help relieve stress and tension, improve circulation, clear blocked nerve impulses, and improve wellness.  Because there are reflexes that correspond to the internal organs and core of the body, Reflexology may be able to address areas of the body that traditional massage cannot reach.  LMT and Reflexologist, Laura Norman, suggests that one may find a deeper state of relaxation from Reflexology than from other bodywork modalities.3 This deep state of relaxation triggers the body’s own inner healing process – the parasympathetic nervous system – which activates digestion, rest, and recuperation.

One study by the Touch Research Institute of Miami showed that regular Reflexology sessions lowered stress hormone levels and improved alertness.4  Another 30-year study by Dr. Jesus Mazanares showed congested nervous tissue areas in the feet that contained high levels of inflammatory and pain related chemicals were significantly reduced by the application of Reflexology techniques.5

Core ReaXion, a new class from Mike

Friday, October 28th, 2011 At 9:00 pm

Core Reaxion’s mobility class was designed specifically to address mobility issues that Mike and Scott were seeing in their patients and athletes. This class will focus on increasing the mobility of each of the major joints of the body, as well as, focusing on the causations of immobility.

This progressive four week program is specifically designed to incorporate a total body approach that addresses all the elements that limit the body’s fluid natural movement. Some of the key elements to be addressed are soft tissue/joint capsule restriction, muscle imbalance issues, and how these factors lead to immobility and dysfunctional movement patterns.

This class will provide the participants with the tools they need to revitalize their total body energy dynamic. Join Mike and Scott for this four week course and rediscover what happy and healthy feels like.

Classes to begin on November 14, 2011.  Call Capitol Rehab at 540-665-4444.
