Run for the Ribbon!

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 At 11:27 am
Come out and run in the first annual Run for the Ribbon!!  The race will be held on September 24 at the Kiwanis Shelter at Chet Hobert Park in Berryville, VA and will start promptly at 8:00 a.m.  There will also be a kids’ run following the main race.  Mail-in registration must be postmarked by September 12.  All registration after that will be on race day.  Race day registration and packet pick-up will be from 6:45 a.m. until 7:45 a.m.  T-shirts will be guaranteed to all pre-registrants, including racers in the kids’ run. They are first-come, first-serve for participants that register on race day.  The entry fee of the big race is $12 pre-registration (SVR members $11) and $15 on race day. The kids’ run costs $4.  The registration form is attached to this email.
The race will consist of 2 laps (starting and ending at the Kiwanis Shelter) around the park with racers ending through the finish chute.  The total mileage will be 5.9 kilometers (3.66 miles).  All of the proceeds of this race will be donated to Zero: the project to end Prostate Cancer.  The race is in memory of my grandpa, Jim McClure, who died of prostate cancer in 2005 at the all-too-young age of 59 (that’s why the race is a 5.9K).  The kids’ race will be one lap around the field adjacent to the Kiwanis Shelter, and will be 0.59 kilometers (0.366 miles; 645 yards).  Anyone is welcome to do the 5.9K, walkers included.  The kids’ run is for children 10 and under.  Kids under 10 may run in both races…place a check mark by both races but only write a check for the 5.9K.
All kids in the kids’ run will receive an award when they cross the finish line.  Parents are welcome to run with their child(ren) during the kids’ run.  Following the kids’ run, awards will be given out for the 5.9K along with random door prizes to anyone in attendance!  Age groups for awards are (males and females separate) 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60 and up.
There will be a water table at approximately the 1.2 and 3-mile marks.  There will be volunteers all along the run keeping you on the course and cheering you on.  On race day, if you have any questions or need anything, look for one of our volunteers: they will be wearing blue weaved bracelets.  There will also be post-race snacks.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (540) 662-1042 or maddie.treiber@comcast.net.
We look forward to seeing you there!!!
Thanks,
Madeline Treiber
Race Director
