    A New Reflexology Treatment!

    Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011 At 1:42 pm

    Introducing New Foot Reflexology Treatment

The fall season is well underway, and cooler breezes presage winter’s restoration.  This time of year we anxiously anticipate the holiday season and are driven by productivity and preparation for the year to come.  It is easy to slip into a fast paced routine that leaves our minds and bodies stressed and worn out.  This year, why not make an effort to stay above the bleak mid-winter blues?  The benefits of relaxation are never more pertinent than now, and so we invite you to experience our new indulgent Foot Reflexology treatment and take a step towards peace and health this season!

President of the International Institute for Reflexology, Dwight Byers defines reflexology as “the science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands with correspond to all the glands, organs, and parts of the body”.1  Longitudinal and transverse lines that divide the body into zones map out the reflex areas in the corresponding zones of the feet.2  The reflex areas in the feet become a minimap of the whole body.

The Reflexology method involves using thumb and finger techniques on foot reflexes to help relieve stress and tension, improve circulation, clear blocked nerve impulses, and improve wellness.  Because there are reflexes that correspond to the internal organs and core of the body, Reflexology may be able to address areas of the body that traditional massage cannot reach.  LMT and Reflexologist, Laura Norman, suggests that one may find a deeper state of relaxation from Reflexology than from other bodywork modalities.3 This deep state of relaxation triggers the body’s own inner healing process – the parasympathetic nervous system – which activates digestion, rest, and recuperation.

One study by the Touch Research Institute of Miami showed that regular Reflexology sessions lowered stress hormone levels and improved alertness.4  Another 30-year study by Dr. Jesus Mazanares showed congested nervous tissue areas in the feet that contained high levels of inflammatory and pain related chemicals were significantly reduced by the application of Reflexology techniques.5

Core ReaXion, a new class from Mike

    Friday, October 28th, 2011 At 9:00 pm

Core Reaxion’s mobility class was designed specifically to address mobility issues that Mike and Scott were seeing in their patients and athletes. This class will focus on increasing the mobility of each of the major joints of the body, as well as, focusing on the causations of immobility.

This progressive four week program is specifically designed to incorporate a total body approach that addresses all the elements that limit the body’s fluid natural movement. Some of the key elements to be addressed are soft tissue/joint capsule restriction, muscle imbalance issues, and how these factors lead to immobility and dysfunctional movement patterns.

This class will provide the participants with the tools they need to revitalize their total body energy dynamic. Join Mike and Scott for this four week course and rediscover what happy and healthy feels like.

Classes to begin on November 14, 2011.  Call Capitol Rehab at 540-665-4444.

    Run for the Ribbon!

    Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 At 11:27 am
Come out and run in the first annual Run for the Ribbon!!  The race will be held on September 24 at the Kiwanis Shelter at Chet Hobert Park in Berryville, VA and will start promptly at 8:00 a.m.  There will also be a kids’ run following the main race.  Mail-in registration must be postmarked by September 12.  All registration after that will be on race day.  Race day registration and packet pick-up will be from 6:45 a.m. until 7:45 a.m.  T-shirts will be guaranteed to all pre-registrants, including racers in the kids’ run. They are first-come, first-serve for participants that register on race day.  The entry fee of the big race is $12 pre-registration (SVR members $11) and $15 on race day. The kids’ run costs $4.  The registration form is attached to this email.
The race will consist of 2 laps (starting and ending at the Kiwanis Shelter) around the park with racers ending through the finish chute.  The total mileage will be 5.9 kilometers (3.66 miles).  All of the proceeds of this race will be donated to Zero: the project to end Prostate Cancer.  The race is in memory of my grandpa, Jim McClure, who died of prostate cancer in 2005 at the all-too-young age of 59 (that’s why the race is a 5.9K).  The kids’ race will be one lap around the field adjacent to the Kiwanis Shelter, and will be 0.59 kilometers (0.366 miles; 645 yards).  Anyone is welcome to do the 5.9K, walkers included.  The kids’ run is for children 10 and under.  Kids under 10 may run in both races…place a check mark by both races but only write a check for the 5.9K.
All kids in the kids’ run will receive an award when they cross the finish line.  Parents are welcome to run with their child(ren) during the kids’ run.  Following the kids’ run, awards will be given out for the 5.9K along with random door prizes to anyone in attendance!  Age groups for awards are (males and females separate) 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60 and up.
There will be a water table at approximately the 1.2 and 3-mile marks.  There will be volunteers all along the run keeping you on the course and cheering you on.  On race day, if you have any questions or need anything, look for one of our volunteers: they will be wearing blue weaved bracelets.  There will also be post-race snacks.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (540) 662-1042 or maddie.treiber@comcast.net.
We look forward to seeing you there!!!
    Thanks,
    Madeline Treiber
    Race Director

    Welcome Garrett Sanders, P.T., D.P.T.

    Monday, May 23rd, 2011 At 2:27 pm

Capitol Rehab of Winchester is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Garrett Sanders to our Physical Therapy staff.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Stevenson (MD) University and Doctor of Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University.

Dr. Garrett Sanders’ personal experiences are what drive his passion and enthusiasm to provide excellent physical therapy care to patients of all ages.  Dr. Sanders believes that physical therapy is a dynamic relationship between provider and patient that utilizes multiple disciplinary aspects to achieve optimal outcomes.

Dr. Sanders’ path to becoming a physical therapist has taken him from patient to practitioner.  A record-setting pitcher at the prep and college levels, potentially career-ending elbow injuries twice slowed stellar seasons.  However, he attributes proper diagnosis, surgery and physical therapy as the key to averting career ending status.  It was also then that he knew becoming a physical therapist was what he was meant to do.

At Stevenson, he holds a number of game, season and career pitching records, in addition to becoming the first pitcher in SU history to pitch a no-hitter.  Dr. Sanders is an avid golfer and overall sports enthusiast.

We are excited to add Dr. Sanders  to our outstanding staff of physical therapists.  Be sure to say hello the next time you are in.
